This is one of our all-time favourites – a rich, surprising story about an academic project that sparked a fierce political debate.
The European Quran project made headlines for all the wrong reasons, but at its heart, it is a fascinating journey into Europe’s cultural repositories looking for – and through – ancient manuscripts for clues about the impact the Quran had on European culture and thought.
We followed the project team into to some of Europe’s greatest libraries, from the Vatican Library and the Bibliothèque nationale de France to L’Orientale University in Naples, and even on a lecture tour to Delhi, India.
It’s rare enough to even enter some of these beautiful places, let alone film in them, so this documentary was as much fun to make as it to watch.
